How an audit works

An OBCO audit runs in six steps: request and pre-assessment, planning, the on-site audit, reporting, corrective action plan (CAP) follow-up, and verification and closure.

Whether it is a social compliance, quality or store audit, every audit follows the same basic flow. Steps and responsibilities are clear from the start, so the brand knows what it will receive and when, and the site knows what to expect.

What are the steps of an audit?

  1. 01

    Request and pre-assessment

Audit type, scope, the standard or checklist to use, site details and date window are confirmed. We check for anything that could affect impartiality.

  2. 02

    Planning

An auditor suited to the region and subject is assigned, the number of days is set, and the site is informed as the audit type requires (announced, semi-announced or unannounced).

  3. 03

    On-site audit

It begins with an opening meeting, followed by a site tour, document review and worker interviews held without management present.

At the closing meeting the findings are explained to site management and expectations for corrective action are shared.

  4. 04

    Reporting

Findings are reported with evidence and severity ratings, in the brand's format or in our own digital system. Zero-tolerance findings are reported immediately, without waiting for the report.

  5. 05

    CAP follow-up

The site prepares a corrective action plan for every finding. OBCO reviews the plan and tracks progress against its timeline.

  6. 06

    Verification and closure

Fixes are verified by evidence review or a follow-up audit. Verified findings are closed, and anything still open is reported to the brand.
