Corrective Action Plan (CAP) Follow-up and Verification
CAP follow-up is the process of verifying, through evidence review or a follow-up audit, that each non-conformity found in an audit has actually been fixed under the site's corrective action plan, and then closing it.

What is a CAP and why does it need follow-up?
A CAP (corrective action plan) sets out, for every non-conformity found in an audit, what the site will fix, who is responsible and by when. A plan nobody follows up usually stays on paper, and the same findings come back at the next audit.
OBCO runs CAP follow-up as the natural continuation of the audit. We review the plan, push back on unrealistic deadlines and surface-level fixes, check the evidence, and close a finding only when it has really been resolved. The whole process can be tracked in our own digital system or in the brand's software.
What is checked when verifying a CAP?
- Whether every finding has an action, an owner and a deadline
- Whether the root cause was identified, or only the symptom treated
- Whether the evidence (photos, documents, records) relates directly to the finding and is current
- Whether the fix will last: procedures, training and clear responsibilities
- The risk of the same problem recurring in other departments or subcontracted workshops
Desk review or follow-up audit?
| Method | How it works | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Desk review | Documents, records and photos sent by the site are reviewed remotely. | Findings whose fix can be shown on paper, such as a missing permit or an updated procedure. |
| Follow-up audit | The auditor returns to the site to see the fixes in person. | Zero-tolerance and major findings, safety issues that must be seen on site, or when evidence is insufficient. |
How does the CAP process run, step by step?
- 01
Plan
The site submits a plan with an action, owner and deadline for each finding in the report.
- 02
Plan review
OBCO reviews the plan and returns inadequate or unrealistic items with reasons.
- 03
Evidence and verification
Fixes are verified by desk review or a follow-up audit.
- 04
Closure and reporting
Verified findings are closed; anything still open or overdue is reported to the brand.
CAP follow-up: common questions
- How much time is given to complete a CAP?
The brand's programme and the severity of the finding decide. Zero-tolerance and life-safety findings must be addressed immediately; other findings may be given longer.
- Is sending a photo enough?
Sometimes. A replaced fire extinguisher can be shown in a photo, but findings on wages or overtime need payroll and time records.
- Can OBCO follow up a CAP from an audit done by another firm?
Yes. If the brand requests it, we can follow up and verify based on the earlier audit report.
